About the event
Come along and learn the basics of plant identification in this hands-on beginners' botany workshop, delivered by Dr Hilary Pearl.
The aim is to enthuse and open the world of botany to our community, and to introduce new skills and resources for ongoing independent learning.
You'll pull flowers apart and make a mini plant press to take home, and enjoy a visual feast of Sunshine Coast flora through photos of key plant features. Hilary will be dissecting native flora for us to have a closer look at — it's a great opportunity to learn the basics from one of the best (Congratulation Hilary to have been named one of the 2026 Australian Native Plant Awards winners presented by by the Australian Native Plant Society (Australia) (ANPSA)).
We'll focus on four key plant families of our region:
Myrtaceae – gums, bottlebrushes and lillypillies
Proteaceae – banksias
