Seed Collecting

Collected fruit containing seed ready for cleaning.

Seed and cuttings for the nursery are primarily collected by staff and volunteers from wild native plants on the Sunshine Coast to ensure local genetic integrity.

Around 90–95% of our plants come from natural populations, with the rest from cultivated sources or division within the nursery.

Seed collection excludes National Parks unless part of an approved species recovery program. The nursery holds permits to collect from specific public lands.

The collection range includes Noosa North Shore to Currimundi Lake and west to Mt Ninderry, with additional seed donated from private properties in areas like Maleny and Pomona

🌱 We kindly ask the community not to collect seed independently from national parks, reserves and public lands, as unregulated collection can unintentionally harm native plant populations. While seed collecting may sound simple, it requires specialist knowledge to ensure plant health, protect wildlife habitats, and maintain the long-term survival of native species.

The nursery’s staff and trained volunteers follow strict ethical and legal protocols under seed collection permits.  We welcome your support by volunteering with us, donating locally sourced seed from your property (where appropriate), or simply choosing to grow plants purchased directly from the nursery.
