Banksia integrifolia
Coast Banksia
Proteaceae
Description:
A tough and adaptable native tree, ideal for exposed coastal sites, street planting, or as a striking feature in the garden. Its size varies with conditions—compact and wind-sculpted on dunes and headlands, taller and more upright further inland. The grey-green foliage is highlighted by golden-yellow flower spikes up to 15 cm long, appearing mainly in autumn and winter. Woody seed cones remain on the tree for long periods before releasing seeds, adding year-round texture and interest. This iconic Sunshine Coast tree provides valuable food and shelter for birds, including the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, and other native wildlife.
